BEFORE AND AFTER CARE INSTRUCTION
LASER TREATMENT PRE AND POST CARE:
LASER HAIR REMOVAL:
Laser hair removal uses concentrated light to target and destroy hair follicles, effectively reducing or eliminating hair growth. Over the next 1-3 weeks, the hair in the treated area begins to shed. Although it may seem like the hair is still growing, it is actually falling out. Optimal results typically require multiple sessions, as hair grows in different cycles. Initially, some clients may notice random patches of hair, but results will gradually improve with each subsequent session.
BEFORE TREATMENT:
It is IMPORTANT that you follow all pre-treatment instructions carefully to reduce the chances of side effects and achieve the optimum results from treatments.
6 months before:
- Avoid Accutane
4 weeks before:
- Avoid waxing, plucking, using depilatory (hair removal cream) or other hair removal practices.
- Avoid photosensitive medications (i.e. Anti-biotic, Doxycycline, Tricyclic antidepressants, Quinidine, Amiodarone, St. John Wort etc.)
- Refrain from getting other laser treatments/ Microdermabrasion/ Micro-needling/ Chemical Peels on the same treatment site
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, self tanner such as creams or spray.
2 weeks before:
- Refrain from getting Botox/ Filler on the same treatment site.
1 week before:
- Avoid skin irritants (i.e. Products contain tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, AHA, BHA, vitamin C/L-ascorbic acid, astringents, etc.)
- Avoid Anticoagulants
24 hours before:
- Ensure the treatment area is clean-shaven one day prior to your appointment.
- If you have a history of Herpes Simplex Virus or cold sores, you must premeditate one day prior to treatment to prevent further outbreaks.
Day of treatment:
- For facial treatment: Refrain from applying makeup, lotion, cream, serum, oil, or perfume on the day of your treatment.
- For body treatment: Avoid applying body lotions, oils, perfumes, and deodorants, and remove any jewelry from the areas to be treated beforehand.
- Wear loose fitting clothing that will leave the treatment area exposed and easily accessible for treatment. Tight or rough clothing may cause you to feel uncomfortable if the skin becomes sensitive after treatment.
- During your treatment you can expect slight discomfort, similar to a rubber-band snap on your skin. If you have sensitive skin, you may apply a topical numbing cream 30 minutes prior to treatment time in order for it to take effect.
- Please inform your technician if you have ever had tattoos or cosmetic pigmentation or permanent makeup applied near the area of treatment.
- Please inform your technician if you become pregnant or you have any changes to your health history or medication since your last appointment.
AFTER TREATMENT:
Here is the post treatment guideline to help you achieve the best result:
NOT TO DO:
- Avoid heat: Refrain from strenuous exercising, hot baths, showers, or hot tubs for 24-48 hours. Increasing irritations may develop with any activity that stimulates blood flow or increases body temperature.
- Avoid makeup: For facial treatment, wait 24-48 hours before you apply makeup to allow your skin to breathe and recover. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to wait longer. It is important to listen to your skin and give it the time it needs to heal.
- Discontinue use of exfoliants: It’s recommended to wait 5-7 days before resuming skincare products containing retinol, hydroquinone, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, vitamin C, or benzoyl peroxide etc.
- Avoid plucking, waxing, using a depilatory or undergo electrolysis in between treatments.
- Minimize shaving: Try to leave the hairs alone and ONLY shave the day before your next appointment. Excessive shaving may stimulate the hair growth.
- Avoid using cosmetics containing alcohol: Alcohol can dry out the skin, delaying the healing process. Please avoid using cosmetics containing alcohol for one week.
TO DO:
- Sunburn sensation: Clients may experience mild redness and swelling in the treated area, similar to a sunburn. Usually these will subside shortly. It’s recommended to apply an ice pack if the treated area is extremely warm and it’s not cooling down within 5 minutes.
- Rash/irritation: Occasionally, clients may experience a rash or irritation as the laser heats the hair follicles. It’s recommended to apply Aloe Vera or Hydrocortisone1.5% post-treatment 3 times daily to smooth the skin.
- Initial hair shedding: During the first 1 to 2 weeks after treatment, your body will gradually expel the dead hairs from the follicles. While it may seem like the hair is growing, it is actually shedding. To assist and accelerate this process, gently exfoliate the treated area 2 to 3 times per week starting from the second week. Applying moisturizer after exfoliating will aid in skin replenishment.
- Maintain good skin hygiene: Cleanse the treatment area as needed with a gentle soap to remove sweat, dirt, and bacteria, which helps reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.
- Use gentle products: In the initial week following treatment, it’s recommended to use a gentle and non-comedogenic moisturizer twice daily for 5-7 days.
- Sun Protection: Limit direct sunlight exposure for at least 2 weeks. Continue to protect your skin by applying broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher. Reapply every two hours if you are outdoors for extended periods.
If you notice any side effects that seem abnormal or are not listed here, please contact us immediately.
