What is Near Infrared skin tightening?

The Soprano ICE Near-Infrared Skin Tightening laser is a new and effective treatment for improving skin laxity without surgery or downtime. The procedure uses a safe infrared light to heat the water content in the tissue deep below the skins surface causing collagen fibers to contract and tighten to smooth out fine lines and sagging skin. The heat also stimulates fibroblasts which repairs cells in your skin to produce new collagen, creating long term results.

What areas can be treated?

  • chin and jowls
  • crow’s feet
  • forehead
  • neck and décolleté
  • upper arms and hands
  • abdomen
  • thighs.

What are the advantages of NIR skin tightening

NIR skin tightening works with your body to naturally stimulate the production of new collagen.

It can rejuvenate ageing skin painlessly and with only mild, if any, side effects or downtime.

It achieves effective results without the risks and costs associated with plastic surgery or Botox anti-wrinkle injections.

It is a less aggressive procedure than chemical peels or laser resurfacing, which can leave your skin red and swollen for a few weeks afterwards.

And it provides a longer-lasting solution to ageing skin compared to ‘quick-fix’ solutions such as facials and home-use firming creams.

What is the treatment like?

Just prior to the treatment protective eye wear will be provided and a cool gel will be applied to the area to be treated. The NIR hand piece is then passed over the treatment area in a sweeping motion. During the treatment the skin temperature of the treated area will be closely monitored with a special infrared thermometer to ensure that your skin is receiving a sufficient level of heat necessary to warm up the water content of your skin and stimulate collagen production.

During the skin tightening treatment, you will feel a warm sensation as the infrared energy is delivered to the deeper layers of the skin. While the infrared energy is heating the dermis, continuous contact cooling is keeping the skin’s outer layer cool and comfortable. The treatment is generally considered by most to be ‘near’ painless, with only a warm sensation or feeling of heat felt during the treatment.

How long does a Skin Tightening treatment take?

The NIR module heats up your skin until it reaches a working temperature of between 39 and 42 Celsius degrees. We maintain this temperature for a further 10 to 15 minutes. Depending on the size of the area we are treating, the whole procedure should be completed in about 30 to 40 minutes.

How does my skin look after the treatment?

After your treatment, you can expect the treated area to be slightly flushed. For most patients this normally subsides within a few hours, although for some it may last for 24 hours. Make up can be applied after the treatment and generally you can go back to work or to other activities without any recovery time.

Is the treatment painful?

You should not feel any pain during NIR skin tightening.

You will feel a warm sensation, similar to being on a sun bed, which at most might be slightly uncomfortable.

The handpiece has a built-in cooling system to prevent the surface layer of your skin becoming too warm.

We can apply more cooling gel, though, if you do start to feel uncomfortable.

Are there any side effects?

Because the treatment involves heating your skin to a relatively high temperature, you should expect some redness afterwards.

You may also have some mild swelling, but this and the redness should settle down within a few hours (24 hours at most).

Other than this, there is no downtime and you can continue with your day immediately after treatment.

How soon will I see the results?

You should notice your skin looking firmer immediately after the treatment. This is partly due to the slight swelling that is a normal side effect of NIR skin tightening.

When this swelling has gone down (within 24 hours), the treated skin will feel smoother and you will see some improvement.

However, the most significant results happen gradually over the following 2 or 3 months. In this period, the tightening becomes more visible as the skin forms new collagen.

How many treatments do I need?

Multiple treatments are required depending on your skin’s laxity, the area to be treated and the results you desire. Typically a course of up to six treatments is recommended at 2-6 week intervals. The complex process of new collagen formation means that the results will continue to improve and develop for up to 6 months after completion of your treatment course. Due to the continual ageing process, results typically last 1-2 years, however, we recommend that you have a maintenance treatment twice a year to maintain the stimulation of your collagens reproduction.

Who is suitable for Infrared Skin Tightening treatment?

The effectiveness of laser Skin Tightening treatments is dependent on the characteristics and severity of your loose skin. Laser Skin Tightening works best if you have mild to moderate laxity and sagging in the cheek, jawline and/or neck and mild looseness with minimal stretch marks on your abdomen. Patients between 30 and 65 are generally good candidates for this type of procedure.

Who is not suitable for Skin Tightening treatment?

If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, have taken Accutane in the past 6 months or you are taking any photosensitizing medication you should not receive laser treatment.

It is always important to follow all the pre and post treatment guidelines to ensure that you receive optimal results from your treatment.
