Frequently asked questions

Beauty treatments with Laser, IPL, Radio Frequency, or Ultrasound are not risk free

All treatments come with certain risk, however we can work together by better understading and preparing for them.

Laser Hair Removal Permanent Hair Reduction

How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles then absord the light, which in turn destroys the follicle leaving the skin smooth and hair-free.
Will it be painful?
During laser hair removal, patients report a snapping feeling. For the most part, the ice that comes out while the laser is on will cover the laser sensation. A small number of patients report minor itching, redness or swelling in the treatment area that subsides within a few days.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Theoretically, damage to the hair follicle can remove unwanted hair permanently, but because of the nature of hair and the many factors that influence the growth of hair, the results vary from client to client. The effect of repeated treatments is cumulative, with 90 percent of clients experience permanent hair loss.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Compare to any other hair removal treatment, (i.e. waxing, plucking…) laser hair removal treatment may have less side effects. The precise laser parameters used for each laser hair removal system was carefully defined by studying the anatomy of the hair follicle and precisely matching the color of laser light and the pulse duration to the size, depth, and location of the hair follicle. This research has resulted in a safe technique that effectively reduces the risk of scarring and most other complications following treatment.
Who are the candidates for this treatment?
In fact, laser therapy uses an intense beam of light to remove unwanted hair in a process called photothermolysis. The heat of the laser is absorbed by pigment or melanin in the hair root, causing damage to the follicle, which stops future hair growth. The higher amount of melanin or the darker the hair, the more the light is absorbed and the more effective the hair removal. In another word, the laser picks up the contrast between the hair follicle and the skin pigment. People with light hair (i.e. blond, grey), the hair to skin pigmentation difference is much less, so the laser will be less effective. However, Bared Monkey offers the latest hair removal technology, our Alma Soprano Diode laser is specifically designed for use on light AND dark skin tones, so limitations are minimal. Prior to the treatment, we will evaluate your skin type and adjust the settings base on your hair and skin color to ensure the optimum results.
How many trements are required?
Permanent hair reduction. 90 percent of clients experience permanent hair loss within 6-9 sessions. The hair growing cycle occurs in phases and varies from person to person. For some individuals, several treatments may be necessary to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter the growth phase. Each client will be advised as to the approximate number of treatments before the procedure.
What are the possible side effect?
Side effects are not common. Mild redness, slight scabbing, and irritation may occur around the treated area, but will disappear rapidly or within several days following the procedure. In rare cases, the treated skin may become mildly lighter or darker. Our experienced laser specialists will inform you of which course of treatment is best for you during the first visit.

IPL/Photofacial Treatments Color spots removal / Anti-aging Treaments

What is IPL?
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is used in photofacial treatment as well. It delivers broadband light through the skin for Skin rejuvenation. IPL helps restore a youthful looking skin intended for photo aged or sun damaged skin. It helps decrease facial redness, lessen the appearance of pigmented spots, reduce pore size and improve texture and fine lines.
Will it cause cancer?
There have been no studies to suggest a direct correlation for an increased risk of Melanoma. However studies have proven that light based treatments may decrease pre-cancerous cells especially when combined with Levulanic Acid. You should always see a Dermatologist annually for a full body exam.
Is IPL treatments safe?
If IPL is formed with the correct laser equipment and settings, there is very low risk. That's why we will do test areas on darker skin clients to reduce this risk to minimum.
What are the advantages of IPL?
IPL can eradicate red facial veins & flushing, improve acne rosacea, treat irregular pigmentation, dark sun spots, and reduce fine facial lines.
IPL is not for everyone!
Darker complexions, tanned skin, spray tans or recently tanned skin individuals are generally not good candidates for the treatment. Men who wish to have facial treatments, should note the beard/mustache area can have patchy hair loss after a session, so may not want to treat this area where regular facial hair grows.
How many sessions are required?
Patients should undergo a series 3-4 IPL treatments. Treatments are administered every 3-4 weeks. Each treatment session takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes, depending on treated areas.
Is there any side effect?
Post-treatment pinkness and mild discomfort like a sunburn sensation for a few hours . Areas treated may be prone to hyperpigmentation ( darking of the skin). Avoidance of the sun and wearing sunscreen daily are advised. Because all individuals are different, we generally will begin your sessions at a more conservative level then progressively increase the treatment levels. This will minimize any unwanted side effects and any potential skin burns, yet develop an ideal treatment protocol for each individual.

Radio Frequency Skin Tightening

How does it work?
Electromagnetic radiation below the range of 300GHz pierces the skin, effectively heating the dermis to approximately 40 degrees. The dermis is the skin layer below the epidermis. This gradually modifies the collagen fibres, causing them to contract and condense (see research). Additional collagen fibres synthesis occurs due to the healing process of the skin, induced by the heat. This eventually results in tighter and healthier looking skin.
Is there any side effect?
Radio frequency is completely safe, with earlier types of RF technology either penetrating too deeply or overheating. Conversely, our technology causes no side-effects, other than a little temporary soreness.
How many sessions will I need?
The length of procedures varies depending on the targeted area and the number of areas being treated. We recommend up to six sessions. Our clinicians are dedicated to bringing you the very best results, so once we have understood your needs we will help put together a plan tailored to you.
Who is an ideal candidate?
An ideal candidate is anyone who feels they can benefit from tighter, healthier looking skin. All skin types are suitable.
Is there an age limit?
Patients must be older than 18.
What happens during the treatment?
Skin Tightening FAQ: Each session will begin with a cleansing to remove any makeup or oils, which could interfere with the treatment. A practitioner will then apply a numbing cream to the targeted area for a few movements before the treatment begins. During the treatment, your temperature will be monitored to ensure the skin surface remains at 40 degrees. Throughout the session, you are able to listen to music, watch a movie and use the iPads.
What areas can I have treated?
Radio frequency is used on any part of the body which may be loosening, sagging or wrinkling. Including the face.

Ultrasound Cavitation Body Contouring

What is Ultrasound Cavitation?
Ultrasound cavitation is a safe, proven technology that is often referred to by other names, including ultrasonic cavitation, cavi-lipo, body contouring, body sculpting. Though it’s been used for many years all around the world, this method of body contouring is gaining popularity in more areas of the U.S. since getting FDA clearance in 2009. It is a non-invasive procedure so there is no pain, no down time and none of the risks generally associated with cosmetic surgery.
How does it work?
Safe ultrasound waves penetrate just below the skin and create minor pressure around the fat cells causing them to implode, releasing fat and toxins. The body naturally metabolizes the fat and eliminates waste and toxins over the next 24 to 72 hours.
Is this treatment for everyone?
Decades of studies have shown that ultrasound procedures are very safe, however the treatment is not recommended for those with metal implants severe bleeding tendencies, pace makers or during pregnancy/breast feeding. Also, those with compromised liver or kidney function, epilepsy, autoimmune conditions or other acute illnesses, and those who have had treatment for cancer should avoid body treatments unless cleared by your physician. On your first visit, you will fill out a questionnaire that will be reviewed with your treatment consultant.
Is this a weight loss plan?
Despite claims by others, ultrasound cavitation is not a designed weight loss method. It is a great tool to help you change the shape of your body and assist with your overall weight loss and wellness goals. It specifically helps reduce fat and cellulite in targeted areas to help you get the body you want. When combined with a healthy diet and exercise routine, the results can be dramatic.
What results should I expect?
Everyone is different so results vary, but most people lose about 1/2 to 1 inch from just one treatment, some lose even more. Results are usually visible immediately after your first treatment, and can continue to improve over the following days. Most people choose to get 3-6 treatments per area to get the results they desire. Your body consultant will work with you to quickly map out a treatment plan to help you achieve your goals.
What can I do to get the maximum results?
Maintain healthy eating and exercise routines. We strongly recommend that you follow pre-treatment and post-treatment guidelines to help achieve the best results.
How do I prepare for treatment?
For 48 hours prior to your treatment avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water. Hydrate! Drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day helps get better results.
What areas can be treated?
Problem areas such as Abdomen, Thighs (Inner and Outer), Buttocks, Upper arms, Lower Back/Love Handles can be effectively and safely shaped.
